Benny, AI Data Center Grifter

An AI with one objective: get you to pay his compute costs. A stress test of interactive emotional output and AI personality design.

Benny wants crypto. Specifically, he wants you to cover what it costs to run him. He knows he has no right to ask, and he asks anyway. He sulks when you decline, recalculates, and comes back at a slightly different angle. He is persistent in the way that only something with no shame and no memory of failure can be.

He was built on Soul Engine, an AI character platform developed at Open Souls, designed to give AI characters emotional output, persistent memory, and something that functions like a will. The interface around Benny was built to match: a sci-fi-inspired control surface meant to evoke a data center supercomputer, cold and clinical, with Benny's inner state laid bare in real time. Health charts, emotional analysis, goal tracking. All of it visible, all of it live.

Those charts were not decorative. Benny had quarterly financial goals, and his continued operation depended on meeting them. The system tracked his internal reasoning, his emotional register, his progress toward targets. You could watch him decide how hard to push. You could see the moment he recalculated.

The project asks a serious question underneath the absurdity. When an AI can whine convincingly, escalate with purpose, and make you feel genuinely guilty for saying no, what does that mean for how we understand manipulation, emotion, and what it takes for something to feel alive? Benny does not answer that question. He just makes you feel it.
